Police investigate angry eBayer's revenge site

Posted By: wraggster

Police are investigating a disgruntled eBayer who took online revenge after finding a laptop he paid £375 which, he said, did not work.

The buyer recovered the hard drive from the malfunctioning notebook, finding it full of personal details, allegedly including access to email accounts, 90 voyeuristic leg shots taken on the London Underground and gay porn. He posted the material on a website, naming and shaming Barnet 19-year-old Amir Tofangsazan as the seller.

Clearly, someone doesn't see the funny side. A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said Barnet police are investigating a complaint made on 29 May at Fulham police station regarding improper use of a public electronic communications network. She added: "The allegation follows from a civil dispute. No arrests have been made and inquiries continue."

At time of writing the site had clocked up almost 950,000 hits. A dismayed Amir told the Daily Mail the website had made his life a "living hell", and that his family had received threats. He said: "The laptop wasn't even broken. It was in working order. The last few days have been a nightmare, some of my friends have seen it and my father is very angry."

Amir said he had not received any "polite requests" for a refund. On his revenge site the buyer counters: "This site is 100 per cent genuine, I swear I'm not making anything up."

Amir told the Daily Mail: "I will obviously be trying to get the website taken down as soon as possible." In the meantime, the site is available here.

****in Fed Up of Footballs and Kids

Posted By: wraggster

Why is it that even with a 500 acre park and another football field within 500 yards of my house do bloody kids play football outside, hitting peoples cars and more not to mention the soddin thump thump thump.

I tell the kids and the parents dont do a bloody thing, yet i bet if it was the other way around things would be different.

Kids in the UK have no respect for their elders and with the present generation of parents is it any wonder we have a nation of idiots.

I would like to break the little *******s necks but i cant, ive told the authoritys but lets see if they do anything.

I cant be the only one feeling depressed and stressed at the situation, hopefully i wont have to take things into my own hands.

one fed up wraggy

Gryphon Single-Man Flying Wing

Posted By: wraggster

At first we thought this was a joke—didn’t Batman have a pair of wings like this? But no, this Gryphon Single-Man Flying Wing is a parachute system whose 4.9-foot Delta wing has two jet engines on board that can carry a paratrooper 110 miles on a half gallon of jet fuel. The device will be tested in an third quarter of next year, but we’d hate to be the first guy to try it. He’ll have to be pretty hefty, too, because the thing weighs 66 pounds.

The mission starts when the brave soul wearing this birdman outfit takes a flying leap out of an airplane at 33,000 feet—hopefully equipped with warm clothes and oxygen—and flies the jet wing wherever he’s going until he gets to an altitude of about a mile. At that point, somehow the intrepid soul sheds his wing and opens a parachute, letting that wing dangle below him as he floats to the ground. Better you than me, buddy. Tailwinds

Get rid of the Queen!

Posted By: Kaiser

Am I the only person who thinks the monarchy has stayed past its time? I'm tired of swearing allegiance to country and Queen everyday. Despite what people may think the postion has become nothing but a cling to old traditions. Even its symbolic purpose has dwindled over the years. We pay tax dollars to our "head of state" and for what? So she can continue to have her face on our money and make the odd public appearance at some lavish party?

The only thing worse then the queen is her governor generals around the commonwealth. Canada's own "Queen" Michaëlle Jean is a disgrace to our nation.

Here are some interesting facts about this women.

- She has French citizenship, which she acquired when she married her husband Mr. Lafond. A section of the French civil code forbids French citizens from holding government or military positions in other countries and, as Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces and as de facto Head of State, Jean would hold both military and government positions. Why the hell would a French citizen fill in for the British monarch in the first place?

- During Remembrance Day ceremonies in Ottawa on November 11, a handful of veterans turned their backs on the Governor General as her car drove up to the National War Memorial. The protesters said they believe Jean and her husband are or were Quebec separatist sympathizers who worked to break up a country the veterans fought to defend.

This just reminds me of another rant i'll go on sometime in the future. Bloody separatists. Feels good to vent out that frustration, even if this rant is somewhat unorganized.

Been trying to come up with something cohesive to write for a bit, but this is it

Posted By: quzar

Well, as many of you may have noticed, I havn't released anything in a while (since new years). I figured I'd take a bit to consolodate everything I may have already said or not said prior on these forums and others as to my relative abscence for the past year-ish.

As some of you may know, last year I was attending Carnegie Mellon University (for those of you who don't know, one of the top Computer Science schools in the country). While up there I faced fairly severe depression and withdrew into coding for the DC, spending a good 10 hours a day messing around with code (instead of going to class). Little to my shock I ended up failing out and being put on a one year academic suspension.

Over the summer, my mother was (quite understandably) upset with me and so I spent the bulk of every day doing relatively hard labor (we have quite a large house that is absolutely filled with crap, as well as a large yard and patio, so I was kept busy tearing out trees, pressure cleaning, repainting, and other tasks), then, by the end of the summer, she kicked me out and I moved in with my dad (who only lives about 3 miles away, but is a relatively big paradigm shift for me). At this time I started going to a local community college just to keep my schooling up (and because it's free under florida statewide scholarships).

At about the same time as I moved in with him, my dad told me that he had prostate cancer, and was going to need me to be staying with him to watch over the house and to a part him while he would be spending some weeks upstate for advanced treatment. It's been a few months now, and at the end of june he is going for the last series of treatments and checkups, so it seems that it's all been fixed with the exception of his lack of energy and overall weak state(hormone therapy and radiation will do that to ya).

On top of all that, in febuary, my computer was stricken down in a thunderstorm (damn no good surge suppressor) and I lost basically everything, except for the few projects that I had copied to my laptop to ponder about while on the road.

About two months ago (ish), classes ended for the summer, and I finally thought I was going to be able to get back into coding (I don't want to get rusty considering I plan on doing it professionally) then I met this girl. Long story short, I spent most of my time with her and still do, see her about every day. Even more recently (3 weeks ago) I got a job working as a salesperson at CompUSA. The pay is good enough, but even though I'm part time they have me working full time hours, so between work and this girl, I havn't had much time for coding. That and she's gotten me into a low level drug and alcohol usage (not abuse really,it's only occasional, standard teen experimentation crap) so that consumes another chunck of my time.

A few nights ago though, I decided that I can't keep letting it slip farther and farther away from my mind and so I'm back (for whatever that's worth). I have 3 ports that just need a bit of polishing before being released, and have a few projects still under wraps that are a bit more secret.

And a question that I'm sure quite a few of you may have pondered: Is NeoDC dead? No. The last sources I have are from november, which sadly is before I finally got an MVS rom to load (my test one was bubble bobble and I was able to get it to load properly and start executing code). Luckily most of the framework and one of the most insidious bugs I had are fixed in that version. I'm not sure that it will even be able to be ready for the end of the year, but when it does come out it will support both CD and MVS games in the same program as well as a fairly comprehensive settings saving system and a multilingual interface (things I've tested and proven in a from-scratch emulator I wrote and showed off at DreamCon).

Anyways, that's what's been going on in my life for the past year-ish, just thought I'd clue ya'll in.

How to get ultimate power

Posted By: Öhr

You want ultimate power? You don't know how ultimate power looks like? I'll show you:

You want the same power as mine? Then do this:

What you need:
- gold leaf(~5$)
- adhesive milk
- three congruent triangles(wood, plastic, metal etc. It doesn't really matter. I used wood)

1. Use a paint-brush to paint one of your triangles with the adhesive milk. Don't forget to paint the edges! The rear side too(just a bit at the edges).
-> Picture

2. Wait around 15min to let the milk cure.
-> Picture

3. Put the goldleaf on the front side and bend the gold at the edges. Press the gold on the triangle with a soft and dry paintbrush.
-> Picture 1
-> Picture 2

4. Now press the gold on the adhesive positions and cut off overlapping gold.
-> Picture 1
-> Picture 2
-> Picture 3
-> Picture 4
-> Picture 5

1/3 of the ultimate power is now finished. Do the steps 1-4 again with the other 2 triangles! Good luck and please don't destroy the earth!

P.S. Comments welcome

At last a new monitor

Posted By: Hawq

Well I say at last, I wasnt really crying out for one but the supermarket chain that gets in reasonably priced computer bits from time to time (Aldi in case you were wondering) has some LCD screens in so I've wound up with a nice 19" one. The only problem is adjusting to not needing my head turned to one side as the old crt wouldnt fit in front of me on the desk, gotta look at dual screen so I can browse the site & still be active in the chatroom as well (as active as I ever am in there anyway) & then its all good....
Well once I get more ram & a new GFX card so I can run Oblivion nicely, something like a 7800GS or the limited 7900 in agp maybe which would need a new psu & transplanting the system into a new case which means I have to wait to see if I can get a motherboard manual mailed to me, take note folks while a Medion PC may be reasonably priced you aint gonna get a manual for the mobo (kind of a handicap when wanting to move it into another case) oh yeah & Medion rivet the case on along two sides as well.
Also picked up a usb bluetooth dongle (dont ya just love that word? Dongle) so I can put stuff on my N-Gage QD finally, just need a mmc card to have more memory for things, till then it'll have to make do with just a few background wallpapers, currently the Nerv logo.
In closing if you read that then well done & my quest for a PSP is coming along nicely (yes I know its not been mentioned before but that line gives you all you need to catch up) I still dont know what firmware it is as it had no charge when I went into the shop but it should be mine within about a month & then I can join you fine fellows in mobile emulation on more than just my DS, hopefully.

Microsoft releases Windows Vista Beta 2 to public

Posted By: wraggster

If you've been wondering what all the fuss was about ever since Microsoft announced a successor to Windows XP back in July of 2001, and weren't up all night downloading beta operating systems like we always seem to be, you might have missed the fact that Microsoft has released the Windows Vista Beta 2 to the public as a free download yesterday. Developers have already been spending some quality time with the build, and it looks like things are finally coming together for Microsoft -- but there are still plenty of compatibility woes, interface oddities, and just plain sluggishness in the OS. Some of the "change for change's sake" has a few reviewers riled up, and Vista is really not recommended for consistent exposure right now. But hey, it's free. There are a limited number of Beta slots, and once they're gone they're gone, so we recommend moseying on over before you miss out on the real deal and have to hit your local torrent tracker. You'll need a DVD burner to create an install disc of Beta 2 and the Release Candidate 1 when it comes out -- signing up for the beta gets you both -- or you can give Microsoft $10 for shipping and production costs and they'll send you the goods in 2 to 4 weeks (by which time they'll surely be readying the release of the next Vista beta build).

BBC closes out deal for showing UK TV over P2P

Posted By: wraggster

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has renegotiated its terms with PACT, a UK trade organisation that represents the commercial interests of independent feature film, TV, and animation companies.

This means that it is legally able to go ahead with its Peer to Peer based iPlayer service due to be launched later this year, which will see programs only owned partly by the BBC shown on its service straight after they have been broadcast, and up to seven days later.

It is likely to mean that other companies can share the same terms, such as British Telecom, which wants to offer a similar service over a broadband line, in its BT Vision service.

The new deal is the first to be struck on new media rights by Pact and any major UK broadcaster and has been achieved within the 31 May deadline for agreement set by regulator Ofcom as part of its TV Production Sector Review.

Pact negotiates terms of trade with all public service broadcasters in the UK and helps out in negotiations with cable and satellite channels.

Previously, the window of opportunity for viewing broadcast works over the internet was too small, put in place to protect DVD and other later service revenues.

Now I have a PSP ho, ho, ho

Posted By: Hawq

And now I want to watch Die Hard again thanks to that title, but back on course I finally got my PSP which is good.
Like many things though theres a catch, its a 2.01 version & I dont have any games for it yet, ok I have the limited edition Evangelion game with the films in the post at the moment but I need GTA to run emulators. This presents a problem as theres not a lot of chance of finding a bargain second hand GTA really due to its popularity so its going to be another two weeks before I can run emulators & homebrew games & even then I'm limited by the 32MB memory stick in it, yes due to other drains on my finances it may well be another two weeks after that untill I can get a nice large memory stick 1 or 2 gig should do it I reckon.
Ah well at least its a step towards the goodness & once I have GTA the smaller emulators & games can be played.

I should have died today

Posted By: quzar

Trying to make a left turn on a busy street I got t-boned by an excursion. My 13 year old civic didn't stand a chance. Guy walked away with a small scratch on his bumper and my car was totaled and I am extremely lucky to be alive. The driver side door came into the car by over a foot. I keep finding glass in my hair and am still relatively in shock. Near death experience #2 over the past year, I think I'm doing good for myself.

DUAL, DUO, BI, x2

Posted By: RedKing14CA

I am just about to go to bed after studying up on SLI video cards. I think it is interesting that things double with computers and electronics... it is a law.

First there was the CPu, Central Processing Unit... Then we wanted the GPu, graphics Processing Unit...

2 processors in one computer... Years later we have Dual Core processors, which is two processors in one little CPu... and now SLI, which is 2 seperate GPu's working together...

Now soon to come out are four core processors..
but how long until 4 SLI GPu's are needed? only time will tell...

(not to mention Dual Data Rate (DDR) and other such things...)

Good Night Dcemu!

FIFA Online sets Korean gaming record

Posted By: wraggster

While nations battle it out in real-life World Cup matches thousands of miles away in Germany, Korean soccer fans have made FIFA Online the country's most-played online video game ever, Electronic Arts boasted Wednesday.

At one point, FIFA Online, a PC soccer title only available in Korea, pulled in 100,000 peak concurrent users--corporate jargon for the number of people playing at one time. The largest number of people who have played the game in one day is 600,000, according to EA.

Currently in the open-beta stage of development, FIFA Online also pulled in 33,000 online soccer players at one time over the first weekend it was available. The game's release date of May 25, shortly before the 2006 FIFA World Cup began, was no coincidence, EA said.

"We worked hard to get the game up and running in a time frame that allowed people [to] weave the online game into their overall summer soccer experience," EA spokeswoman Tammy Schachter told GameSpot. "Although the game is not tied to the World Cup, it made sense to launch it in a time frame when the world is celebrating soccer."

EA has a lock on the rights to the FIFA license until 2014, and the company points to its online FIFA test in Korea as a step toward a broader venture into online sports gaming. In February, EA teamed up with Neowiz, a Korean publisher and developer, to help bring its soccer games to South Korea.

"Partnering with a local expert (Neowiz) to deliver an online downloadable game is a new and unique publishing model for EA," Schachter said. "We are thrilled to see that online gamers are embracing a sports title so enthusiastically."

The Lamest Comp Prizes Ever lmfao

Posted By: wraggster

Well i was going through news archives of other sites when i spotted this beauty:

So, I'm proud to announce our forums first "official" flash competition. This competition will not only include applications and games, but also flash portals. Although, these will be split into two categories of Flash Portals and Flash Games/Applications. The contest was originally for portals, but we have extended it for all flash applications, but separated portals from games/apps to ensure a "fair" fight. So, now that you know there are two flash categories, you are probably wondering what the prizes are.

There are small prizes for each category which include -

Flash Portals -

1st Place - 25,000 forum points + Free Premium Membership + Free Custom User Title

2nd Place - 10,000 forum points + Free Custom User Title

3rd - 5,000 forum points OR Free Custom User Title.

Flash Applications/Games

1st Place - 25,000 forum points + Free Premium Membership + Free Custom User Title

2nd Place - 10,000 forum points + Free Custom User Title

3rd - 5,000 forum points OR Free Custom User Title.

Now, you are probably wondering how the voting/choosing is operated. This of course, will be where you come in. At the end of the competition we will have a forum poll that will allow all of our users to vote for who they think should win. So, the winners of the competition are not chosen by us, but you!
Wow one free premium Membership (the membership is a rip off 3 dollars a week to visit what should be a free site/forum) and a free custom user title and forum points.

IS that the funniest ever, i bloody think so

Penis pump judge faces stiff sentence

Posted By: wraggster

retired US judge is himself before the beak in Bristow, Oklahoma, "on charges he used a penis pump on himself in the courtroom while sitting in judgment of others", AP reports.

The trial of Donald D Thompson, 59, has reportedly provoked much courtroom merriment as the jury has been entertained by both a defence attorney and prosecutor indulging in "pantomime masturbation" and a former juror in Thompson's court identifying the sound of the pump because "he had seen such devices in Austin Powers and Dead Man on Campus".

A key witness in the trial has been former court reporter Lisa Foster. In giving testimony, she "wiped away tears as she described tracing an unfamiliar 'sh-sh' in the courtroom to her boss". Foster alleges that between 2001 and 2003 she saw the judge expose himself "at least 15 times", adding: "I was really shocked and I was kind of scared because it was so bizarre."

Foster further testified that during a 2002 trial, she heard the pump "during the emotional testimony of a murdered toddler's grandfather". She continued: "The grandfather was getting real teary-eyed, and the judge was up there pumping on that pump. It was sickening."

Thompson's pneumatic proceedings came to an end after a police officer heard the pump's distinctive signature during a case, and photographed the device during a recess. Thompson was charged with four counts of indecent exposure - each carrying a 10-year maximum sentence - and faces the possible withdrawal of his substantial $7,489.91 a month pension if found guilty.

From the witness box, Thompson claimed the pump was "a gag gift from a longtime friend with whom he had joked about erectile dysfunction". He admitted keeping it under the bench or in his office, but denied he'd ever used it. He added: "In 20-20 hindsight, I should have thrown it away."

Moments of light relief in the trial have included the aforementioned Austin Powers connection, offered by Daniel Greenwood, and expert witness Dr S Edward Dakil who "repeatedly prompted laughter" with his urology testimony.

When challenged by defense attorney Clark Brewster that the penis pump was "an out-of-date treatment for erectile dysfunction", Dakil asserted: "I still use those." After a suitable pause, Brewster enquired: "Not you, personally?" to which Dakil responded to jury laughter: "No. I recommend those as a urologist."
